A while ago the lovely and talented Twinkie Chan put out a book. Twinkie Chan's Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies, containing her once-secret crochet patterns. Well, I've finally gotten the book and decided to review it! For those who aren't familiar with her work, Twinkie Chan is a crochet artist who make food-inspired pieces. For those who don't crochet or are interested in looking at what newer pieces she has created, you can view her personal work on Etsy along with her up-and-coming brand, Yummy You. If you're interested in something special, she occasionally takes commissions for old works or entirely new ideas!
First off, I really enjoy the way this book is written. It doesn't come off as dry and emotionless, as many craft books often do. Instead, each description had me smiling and even laughing a little, wanting more than ever to create the scarfs I saw. Twinkie Chan doesn't come off as pretentious but instead is cute and funny, inviting you into her world of food-like scarves and other projects. I myself felt as if I got a tiny peek into a wonderful imagination!

As far as the instructions in the book go, I'm quite in love with them. Where before crochet patterns intimidated me with their long rows of tiny font, Twinkie Chan breaks each piece down into easy to understand instructions. The layout makes it an easy read, with nicely done diagrams interspersed to demonstrate anything that might be the least bit confusing. The patterns themselves are designed for use by those of all skill levels, from beginners to the hardcore, and although Twinkie pegs herself as an intermediate crocheter, there's really something for everyone.

There are 20 projects in the book which are:
- Cupcake Scarf, Candy Button Scarf, Cookie Scarf
- Gingerbread Man Scarf, Lemon Coconut Tissue Cozy
- Rocket Popsicle Scarf, Soft-Serve Ice Cream Scarf
- Chocolate Cupcake Hat with Blue Frosting, Green Salad Scarf
- Pink Grapefruit Scarf, Baby Radish Lariat Scarf
- Pear Scarf, Giant Carrot Scarf
- Strawberry Fingerless Mittens, Bacon and Eggs Scarf
- Butter Toast Scarf, Sushi Scarf, Pepperoni Pizza Scarf
- Popcorn Scarf and Spaghetti 'n' Meatballs Scarf
Now, do know that a few of the yarns recommended in this book are discontinued. This isn't really a problem as she tells you what kind of gauge you need to meet. For those like me who are not only confused by gauges, but find the whole thing a bit of a bore, you can easily just pick a different color in the same style of yarn. For instance, with her cupcake scarf, I'm going with a white frosting and mint colored cake instead of pink frosting and yellow cake. Use your imagination, even with the patterns where the yarns are still available (which are most of them) there are still endless possibilities!
I myself am rather determined to create the majority of the scarves in the book, and feel with some practice, and the mystical powers of youtube, I can learn any specialty stitches I might need.
That looks like a very fun book! I have never heard of "food-inspired" crocheting but it is great. I would love to see the Candy Button Scarf! =) Off to check out her Etsy shop.
